Right To Water Initiative
CEDHA's Right to Water Initiative's principal objective is to improve sustainable access to water through the use of law. Check out the news and specific content of the initiative.
"No resource is more basic than water. Water is essential for life, crucial for relieving poverty, hunger and disease and critical for economic development ... hundreds of millions of men, women and children still do not have proper water for drinking and sanitation. Many remain unemployed because water resources cannot support agricultural or industrial growth. Water problems ultimately end up as "people" problems."

Specific Objectives of the Initiative
- Promote access to justice of victims of human rights violations resulting from non-sustainable use of water resources
- Incorporate a human rights perspective in water resource regulation and legislation
- Promote legal precedent recognizing the right to access drinking water as a human right
- Increase awareness of the links existing between human rights and access to drinking water
Activities of the Initiative
- Provide free legal advisory services to victims of human rights violations resulting from non-sustainable use of water resources
- Undertake legal actions in defense of victims of water contamination before judicial bodies at the local, regional and international level
- Build capacity of civil society leaders on the links existing between human rights and access to drinking water
- Advise public decision makers on the inclusion of a human rights perspective in water management policies and legislation at the local, regional and international level
